PROTECT IP Renamed E-PARASITES Act; Would Create The Great Firewall Of America from the censorship-galore dept

October 28, 2011

As was unfortunately expected, the House version of PROTECT IP has been released (embedded below) and it's ridiculously bad. Despite promises from Rep. Goodlatte, there has been no serious effort to fix the problems of the Senate bill, and it's clear that absolutely no attention was paid to the significant concerns of the tech industry, legal professionals, investors and entrepreneurs. There are no two ways around this simple fact: this is an attempt to build the Great Firewall of America. The bill would require service providers to block access to certain websites, very much contrary to US official positions on censorship and internet freedom, and almost certainly in violation of the First Amendment.

Occupy Fort Lauderdale has been evicted twice from occupying the city parks.

Wednesday October 19th, 2011

The current suggestion is that we wait until each Saturday to do any demonstrations. This is a bad move in that it takes away the Occupy, from fort lauderdale. We are not here to protest abortions during clinic hours. We are here to represent the occupy together movement. Fort Lauderdale is alive at night, especially Wednesdays as it is ladies night.
We need to occupy the public. Do not allow them to shut us down based on the untrue pre-conception that we need a park. We need to OCCUPY a public place and not stand down. So long as it is for public demonstration it is legal.
I have a few people coming down with me to join over night each Wednesday. I say we meet in front of Bank of America and do this tonight. We may be unjustly arrested, however Justice will prevail so long as we don't let them win by just sweeping us under the rug and limiting us to one day of public demonstration. The law doesn't say demonstrations must be during the day, night or Saturday. We can demonstrate in whatever peaceful manner we choose, whenever, wherever so long as it is on public property.
If an officer wakes you or asks you if you're sleeping on the sidewalk the answer is "NO sir or madame, I am demonstrating the need for America to wake up."
It is not too short notice, changes start with action, and that can be happening right now. I am out of school at 10pm, then I will gather my friend and meet those willing to refuse to be swept under the rug on some irrelevant technicality. I will bring trash bags to make ponchos to protect us from the rain. I will bring black t-shirts to wear over these ponchos. If anyone has paint or masking tape we can write 'wake up' or other messages on the front of the shirts and have a silent demonstration. I hope to see you all there. I'll be there no later than 11pm with supplies. I have about 8 shirts, so don't be afraid to bring extra. We'll be in front of
Bank of America: 401 East Las Olas Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, FL from 11pm until Sunrise or later.

Times Square Could Get Occupy Wall Street Billboards

October 9, 2011 featured link

EpicStep, a kickstarter-esque website that crowdsources funds for billboards, has pledged to pay for an Occupy Wall Street billboard if 20,000 people vote for it on their website. People can vote on the design and city where it will be built, and if enough people vote, EpicStep will fund it. If 200,000 people vote, they will buy ad space for two Occupy Wall Street billboards in Times Square. We spoke with one of EpicStep's founders, and they told us that they approached Occupy Wall Street with the idea and "they loved it." So far, the campaign only has 694 votes, but there are 29 days remaining.

Judge orders unionized city bus drivers to transport detained #OccuppyWallStreet protesters

October 6, 2011

New York City judge Paul A. Engelmayer has decided that the NYPD may force city bus drivers to divert from their routes to transport detained Wall Street protesters against the will of the transportation workers union.

U.S. District Judge Paul A. Engelmayer in Manhattan issued his authoritarian decision (early October 4th), and denied the Transport Workers Union Local 100's request for a temporary restraining order. The unionized workers are seeking to stop the police department from forcing drivers to deliver Wall Street protest detainees to holding facilities.

Move Your Money Project

October 04, 2011 Featured Link

"The Move Your Money project is a nonprofit campaign that encourages individuals and institutions to divest from the nation's largest Wall Street banks and move to local financial institutions. Little has changed to prevent another financial crisis or to end 'Too Big To Fail,' and with Congress unwilling to act, we are encouraging individuals to take power into their own hands by voting with their dollars and no longer contributing to a financial system that has lead our country astray. We are a campaign that gives people real, concrete actions they can take to create a more sane, stable and localized banking system."

A War on Voting...

October 04,2011

With election season on the horizon, a new report is warning the disenfranchisement of voters threatens to play a decisive role in next year’s vote. According to the Brennan Center for Justice, a nonpartisan public policy institute, changes to voting laws could strip the voting rights of more than 5 million people, a higher number than the margin of victory in two of the last three presidential elections. Its findings show some 3.2 million people in Kansas, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin do not have the state identification they’ll now need to vote.

Dearest protestors,

This website is my love letter to you. Your words are being ignored by the media, and so those who naturally avoid facebook, twitter and independent news sites have not been given the opportunity to have an opinion in this matter.

Anonymous has been the only constant voice spreading the message of freedom to the masses so far. It is my goal to reveal to the rest of America what it is that the media has been hiding. I will invite American citizens to view the live feeds, visit wall street, and take the opportunity to educate themselves and educate us as well.

It’s time to go on TV. I have started production of Occupy's 30 second televised commercial. I will broadcast this commercial to local television stations around the U.S. The first run of commercials is on me. The next run is on you. I am accepting donations in any amount to this end.

My Promise to you is this:

  1. I will create a series of commercials.
  2. They will be lighthearted and clear
  3. I will televise these commercials to major cities.
  4. The primary purpose of these commercials is to lead people to find out about Occupy Wall Street and Occupytogether.org.
  5. In order to assure the fulfilment of my promises I will not become anonymous. This way you will know who to hold accountable for the proper use of donation funds.

My short-term goal is to raise enough funds to televise these messages during the news hour, for as long as it takes.
